Kapa Haka Portfolio Sample (Tauira Kapa Haka Portfolio)

Description: Each Monday, we do something called 'Kapa Haka', which is a session where we learn about the Maori culture, sing sons, dance and the boys do a Haka. This is to protect the Maori Language and learn the Language.

Big Idea:
At kapahaka I enjoy learning the words for the songs, because I am part Maori and it teaches me stuff about NZ before Europeans came.

I am most proud of having the ability to preform to an audience, because when I was 5, I was very shy, so I am glad I can preform now.

I find doing the karaka challenging because everyone is speaking, and I can only hear bla bla bla.

I am managing this challenge by sometimes lip sinking it, and also trying to say it both at home and kapahaka.

A personal goal for me is to get others around the globe to learn the Maori Language and Saving the Maori Language.

Our school wide focus this term has been around showing excellence. I show this at kapahaka by doing the actions and helping others do it as well.

Feedback: I like how you put in about your feelings and you have been honest.
Feedforward: I think you should work on not to forget some words of the songs sometimes because sometimes in Kapahaka I can here you forgetting some words. #Houston

  1. What a reflective learner you are Tane! I love the way you are challenging yourself to learn more Maori and in turn educate others so it isn't a lost language. Keep on pushing yourself, Kia Kaha!
