Writing Showcase
Goal: Create a detailed plan to organise my ideas and information
1. There was a boy called Conrad. He had no friends at all. No one let him play in any games because they said he was slow and useless. The only people he could play with was his Mum and Dad.
2. My sister is really, REALLY ANNOYING! She screams all the time, then it takes FOREVER to calm her down. Do you know how many times she gets me in trouble. Well, the answer is at least 3 times a day.
Most people don't know it, but she is really, REALLY MEAN!
3. Hugh was a really nice person. He was always asking if people were ok if they looked hurt. And he was asking if he could play. He was also offering people for nice food. People thought he was The Best!

Te Reo Portfolio Sample
WALT: communicate a message.
Description: We have been participating in 3 different workshops around colour, compositions and fonts. We put these skills to use in a poster sharing our knowledge about Te Reo Maori.
Why? We have noticed that our posters are too cluttered and do not communicate a message well.
Task: Make a poster about Te Reo Maori.
Criteria:
Message: My message is clear and purposeful. Everything that is on my poster relates to my message.
Composition: My poster is balanced.
Font: My font is clear, readable and suits the message.
Colour: I have used 2-3 colours that are complementary. My background choice makes the text pop!
Accuracy: All of the words on my poster are spelt correctly.

My words on my poster are all spelt correctly and when I do a poster, I have spelling mistakes.

The font and writing because you can't really read it.

Grasshopper Tennis
WALT: improve our small ball skills like catching, throwing, and hitting.
Description: We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball.
Task: complete the rubric with targets to show your reflection. Make a comment to the questions below?
Evaluation:
What are you most proud of and why? I am most proud of me turing my racquet into a race track because last year I struggled do even get the ball moving but now I can.
What challenged you the most and Why? Slicing the chesse was most challenging because you have to have your racquet on its slim side.
Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? Slicing the cheese because I am basically bouncing the ball down, but I am doing it on the slim side of the racquet.

Maths Portfolio Sample Tane Neilson
WALT: use known facts to solve unknown facts
Description: In Troy's Workshop 11, We have been learning to use known facts to solve unknown facts.
Description: In Troy's Workshop 11, We have been learning to use known facts to solve unknown facts.
Purpose: We did this so we know ALL OF OUR TIMES TABLES, for example, 4x6, we can work that out with 4x5=20. We add on 4 because the beginning number is four. Then, you work out what 20+4 because 4x5=20 and we want to get an answer so we use 20. 20+4=24. So, 4x6+24.
Process: To learn this strategy, you NEED TO KNOW YOUR 10 times tables and 5 times tables. Then, you need to know how to add on. Now, try working out a tricky timetable, e.g, 5x36.
Learning: I learned that when you use this strategy, times tables become a lot more easier.
Evaluation: I think I did pretty well to understand the strategy. (I give myself 7/10) I could improve on getting it done a bit quicker because I was quite slow.

Raffle 4 a ride news
Raffle 4 a Ride was a success
Raffle for a ride is getting to school in a way that you wouldn't normally go to school, e.g, a helicopter. On 17th April, Russell Street School was celebrating the 34 students who got an excellent ride that you won't often get because it is an bi-anuall event. You don't often get to school like this, but these kids don't either. These kids weren't nervous, they were excited, even though there was really heavy rain. So heavy that when I was recording, my iPad got wet.
The supporters club put it on to make money. The tanks seemed to be the popular one, with around 30+ children wanting to get on. People got things like bullets for a gun. Fire trucks, ambulances, sports cars, huge cars, tiny cars, weird cars, flying Cars. Oh wait, you can't get them yet can you. Maybe Helicopters for the time being.
Ivan, the property manager is probably getting mad of all the wheelies that the sports cars were doing. Wheee ooh, Wheee ooh, as the siren goes suddenly. Gone silent again. That's better. Students in Poutama which is the schools open plan classroom got around 20+ students on a ride. Raffle for a Ride was an epic success. The End.

Raffle 4 a ride news
Raffle 4 a Ride was a success

Nearly 40 people in Auckland have recently been diagnosed with the infectious measles disease.
Westlake Boys High School on Aucklands North Shore is one of the hardest hit communities with 20 ill students.
Several other Westlake Boys High pupils who have not been immunised against measles have been asked to stay away for the next two weeks.
Measles is a very serious disease that is highly contagious and can spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
The symptoms include fever, a cough, sore eyes and a rash. There is no treatment, and complications can be severe.
The Auckland Health Service has estimated that around 750 people are at immediate risk of catching the highly contagious disease.
Dr. Julia Peters said the Health Service had been working with the North Shore school for just over a week when the first case of measles was found there.
"This is definitely more than what we'd normally see. We're working hard to contain the measles within the Auckland region."
Dr. Peters said many people who had come down with the disease had recently been overseas and, in particular, in the Philippines.
The public health service has sent information to parents and students at Westlake Boys High and asked that those students who are not sure whether they have been immunised against measles to stay away.
"What we're trying to do is isolate those students as well as those who have measles, because students who are not immunised can get sick," she said.
Another seven cases of measles in Auckland are being investigated - three of them from the same school.
What to watch for Symptoms

* Runny nose, cough, red eyes.
* Small white spots inside mouth.
* Red, blotchy rash on face and neck and later over entire body.

ANZAC Day & World War 1
ANZAC Day means Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. Each year on the 25th April, we celebrate all the people who survived and died. This year, ANZAC day would have been on for 100 years. The war started in 1914. The war was being held in Gallopili, Turkey. It carried on until 1918. In 2010, Brisbane kids were banned to go to the ANZAC parade. I think that kids should be allowed to go to the parade because their relatives might have been in the war and then they can cheer them on.
