Description: We read the poem “My Remarkable Journey” which inspired us to write our own remarkable journeys about why our homework wasn’t at school today. 

Criteria:

We decided that a quality piece of writing has the following things. Reflect on whether these things are in your story:

Introduction: It hooks the reader in the first few lines making them want to read more

The Learning Pit

Description: We have been learning about when good learning happens.  

Task: Share what you know about the learning pit.

Criteria:

Draw the Learning Pit.

I think that you did a fantastic job on your learning pit but then like to say if you went and saw other amazing posters you wouldn't of used that much colour. 

Te Reo Portfolio Sample

WALT: communicate a message.

Description: We have been participating in 3 different workshops around colour, compositions and fonts.  We put these skills to use in a poster sharing our knowledge about Te Reo Maori.

Why? We have noticed that our posters are too cluttered and do not communicate a  message well.

Task: Make a poster about Te Reo Maori.

Criteria:

Message: My message is clear and purposeful.  Everything that is on my poster relates to my message. 

Composition:  My poster is balanced. 

Font:  My font is clear, readable and suits the message.

Colour:  I have used 2-3 colours that are complementary.  My background choice makes the text pop!

Accuracy:  All of the words on my poster are spelt correctly.

Evaluation:

What are you most proud of and why?

My words on my poster are all spelt correctly and when I do a poster, I have spelling mistakes.

What challenged you the most and why?

The font and writing because you can't really read it.

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards?

To try to put the names who made it into order.

Grasshopper Tennis

WALT: improve our small ball skills like catching, throwing, and hitting.

Description: We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball.

Task: complete the rubric with targets to show your reflection. Make a comment to the questions below?

 

Evaluation:

What are you most proud of and why? I am most proud of me turing my racquet into a race track because last year I struggled do even get the ball moving but now I can.  

What challenged you the most and Why? Slicing the chesse was most challenging because you have to have your racquet on its slim side.

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards? Slicing the cheese because I am basically bouncing the ball down, but I am doing it on the slim side of the racquet.

Buddy Feedback/FeedForward: Tane it looks like you and your buddy think that you are very good at the skills but one skill. I have noticed you could work on is slicing the cheese.

EVALUATION: In my eyes, I think my group could have done better than we did. 7/10
WALT: communicate a message with others.

• ●  Create a story board showing the beginning, middle and end of our message. I think me snd MIT group did alright to do the storyboard (5/10) because when we needed it for this sample, we couldn't use it because Troy threw it in the bin.
  
• ●  Use Puppet Pals as a tool to share our message. We had a bit of trouble because we had to restart 4 times (6/10)
  
• ●  Keep our audience engaged. I think we got pretty boring at the end so I give ourselves 4/10.

• ●  Everyone in our group has contributed evenly. I think Troy needs a bit more credit in the movie (6/10)

DESCRIPTION: We have been learning about energy. To share our learning, we have made a video to explain how energy works.
What? Make a video (no longer than 30 seconds) about our understanding of energy. i.e. States of matter, Potential and Kinetic energy, Newtons Cradle or forms of energy like Radiation, Convection, Conduction
Why? To show what we know about how energy works, to share during our Student Led Conference.

Evaluation: I did pretty well at understanding potential and kinetic energy.

Mnemonic Reading Sample

WALT: Rote learn

Description: We have been making a mnemonic as a memory aid to remember our spelling words. To make a mnemonic, first you need a word, e.g, creepy. Then, you need to find words that start with all the letters in the word, e.g, Can Rufus eat eggs plus yoghurt. Now, your mnemonic is complete.

Evaluation: I think I did well for getting all the words I need.

Maths Portfolio Sample Tane Neilson

WALT: use known facts to solve unknown facts

Description: In Troy's Workshop 11, We have been learning to use known facts to solve unknown facts. 

Purpose: We did this so we know ALL OF OUR TIMES TABLES, for example, 4x6, we can work that out with 4x5=20. We add on 4 because the beginning number is four. Then, you work out what 20+4 because 4x5=20 and we want to get an answer so we use 20. 20+4=24. So, 4x6+24.

Process: To learn this strategy, you NEED TO KNOW YOUR 10 times tables and 5 times tables. Then, you need to know how to add on. Now, try working out a tricky timetable, e.g, 5x36.

Learning: I learned that when you use this strategy, times tables become a lot more easier.

Evaluation: I think I did pretty well to understand the strategy. (I give myself 7/10) I could improve on getting it done a bit quicker because I was quite slow.
